Tracing Ziemba and Swiatek families in central Galicia

A couple of photos from a recent tour I did with Carolyn & Catherine.  Girls came to Poland to visit family places and we were all lucky to enjoy the very first sunny days of 2012. We went to Pilzno, Zawada and Tarnów, the third largest town of what used to be called Galicja ( german “Galizien”, part of Poland incorporated to Austria ).

Visiting the Old Cemetery of Pilzno – one of the most atmospheric places in that little town. The burial site was founded nearly two hundred years ago and many of Carolyn’s ancestors were buried there.

Parish church of Pilzno. A local custodian was so happy about having guests from America that he opened the organ prospect especially for us. As a reward for his hospitability Catherine played him a beautiful chant on 18th c. organs…

Church in Pilzno is still a very popular place of worship. Several masses a day, people praying with their rosaries the whole day round
